Tasting Note

The gorgeous texture defines this beautiful, perfumy, inviting Châteauneuf. Fresh, crunchy red fruit is flecked with exotic spices, and incense wafts through, while green, herbal freshness brings lovely lift. Complex and pure, with a chalky feel to the midpalate, lined with warm stone and finely crushed mineral notes, plus grainy tannins. Smoky and long, with energy in reserve. Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault. Drink now through 2038. 80 cases imported.  –KB

ROTEM & MOUNIR SAOUMA Châteauneuf-du-Pape Omnia 2021. Score 94

Tasting Note

A very distinctive style, this Châteauneuf doesn’t lead with fruit, but with a savory overlay of warm earth, salty mineral, smoke and singed garrigue, while notes of wild berry and plum sauce emerge alongside crushed iron. This is big and bold, yet there’s delicacy here too. Sandalwood, brown bread and alder smoke echo on the long, spicy finish, with fine tannins and beautiful textural purity. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2035. 175 cases imported.  –KB
