2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Bonnes Mares
RATING: (95-97) points
FROM: Bonnes Mares Chambolle Musigny, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2025 – 2045

I tasted both barrels of the 2010 Bonnes-Mares. The first, from a parcel on the Morey border, reveals a cool, mineral-infused expression of fruit. The second, from a parcel in the heart of the vineyard, is pure Chambolle in its sexiness and silkiness. The blend is much more interesting and complete than the two separate wines. Sweet floral notes, menthol and spices are woven together on the effortless, gracious finish. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2045.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Chambertin Clos de Beze
RATING: (95-97) points
FROM: Chambertin Clos de Beze Gevrey Chambertin, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2020 – 2030

The 2010 Chambertin-Clos de Beze is a huge, statuesque wine. This is pure Beze at its very finest. Black cherries, blackberries, cassis, violets and licorice stain the palate. Hints of menthol and white pepper develop later, adding lift and brightness. This marvelously complete wine is endowed with tremendous textural depth and richness. The tannins are substantial, but there is more than enough fruit to make them nearly imperceptible. The Beze is another wine with a virtually limitless future. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Chambolle Musigny Charmes
RATING: (91-93+) points
FROM: Les Charmes Chambolle Musigny, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2020 – 2030

The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes is supple and gracious. Mint, sweet spices, dark red berries and flowers are woven together beautifully in this textured, refined Chambolle. The exuberant, flashy finish is highly appealing, but the Charmes is deceptive. It is likely to require quite a bit of bottle age. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Chambolle Musigny les Amoureuses
RATING: (93-95) points
FROM: Les Amoureuses Chambolle Musigny, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2017 – 2030

The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses opens with a blast of sweet red berries and rose petals, showing the sheer sexiness of Amoureuses. There is a weightless, breezy quality to the fruit that is breathtaking in its beauty. A gracious, silky finish makes it impossible to resist a second taste. This is a fabulous showing. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2030.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Chambolle Musigny les Baudes 1Er Cru
RATING: (93-95) points
FROM: Les Baudes Chambolle Musigny, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2020 – 2035

The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes bursts from the glass with an exciting array of dark berries, crushed rocks, flowers and licorice. The powerful side of Chambolle comes through in spades. Firm tannins frame the huge finish. The Baudes possesses fabulous balance but it isn’t going to be ready to deliver maximum pleasure for some time. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Charmes Chambertin
RATING: (94-96) points
FROM: Charmes Chambertin Gevrey Chambertin, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2020 – 2030

The 2010 Charmes-Chambertin is sublime. It reveals lovely fleshiness and depth. Sweet red berries, flowers and spices flesh out in the glass. The Charmes impresses for its impeccable textural finesse, fabulous balance and overall sense of harmony. The Le Moine Charmes is equal parts true Charmes and Mayozeres. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Clos de la Roche
RATING: (94-96) points
FROM: Clos de la Roche Morey St Denis, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2020 – 2035

The 2010 Clos de la Roche, on the other hand, emphasizes focus and linearity. The wine’s length alone is remarkable. Sweet red cherries, dried roses, exotic spices, smoke and licorice are some of the many notes that are woven throughout this utterly compelling, complex Clos de La Roche. The gracious, weightless finish is strikingly beautiful. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Clos St Denis
RATING: (94-96) points
FROM: Clos St Denis Morey St Denis, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2020 – 2030

The 2010 Clos St. Denis is all about textural finesse and effortless grace. Layers of sweet perfume emerge from this harmonious, understated Burgundy. White flowers and licorice add dimension and volume on the finely knit finish. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Clos Vougeot
RATING: (92-94) points
FROM: Clos de Vougeot Vougeot, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2020 – 2030

The 2010 Clos de Vougeot is a big wine bursting with animal-like raw power. Huge scents of dark fruit, leather, licorice and spices saturate the palate as this intense wine shows off its unique personality. There is no shortage of energy here. In fact, it will be interesting to see if the wine calms down over time, or if it will always remain a bit of a brute. Mounir Saouma has three barrels of Clos de Vougeot, each from a different parcel within the Clos. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Corton Bressandes
RATING: (92-94) points
FROM: Les Bressandes Aloxe Corton, Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2020 – 2035

The 2010 Corton Bressandes possesses lovely depth in its layers of expressive fruit. The Bressandes is unusually open and round. It is impossible to miss the wine’s utterly seductive personality. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035.

RATING: (94-96) points
FROM: Les Renardes Aloxe Corton, Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2020 – 2035

The 2010 Corton Renardes opens with a gorgeous, expressive bouquet laced with super-ripe dark red berries, wild flowers and licorice. It is a vertical wine that fills out all the registers with multiple dimensions of flavor. Sweet, perfumed notes are the constant thread that links all of the elements together in this dazzling, pure Corton. This is a fabulous showing. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Echezeaux
RATING: (94-96) points
FROM: Echezeaux Flagey Echezeaux, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2020 – 2030

The 2010 Echezeaux opens with a mysterious, seductive bouquet. The wine is much more focused and linear on the palate, where the early appeal of the aromatics gives way to an energetic expression of fruit. A mineral-drenched finish coats the palate with bright saline notes. Today the 2010 is very, very young and the slow pace of the malo seems to come through in the wine’s raw power and brawn. This is an immensely promising wine, but it needs to move through its infancy first. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Gaudichots 1Er Cru
RATING: (93-95+) points
FROM: Les Gaudichots Vosne Romanee, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2020 – 2040

The last wine of the afternoon is the 2010 Vosne-Romanee Les Gaudichots, which proprietor Mounir Saouma told me he will release later than the other 2010s. Today the Gaudichots impresses for its beguiling, shy personality. With time in the glass, layers of fruit begin to emerge as the wine shows off its cool, mineral-infused energy. It will be fascinating to follow this sensual beauty over the coming years. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Gevrey Chambertin Estournelles St Jacques
RATING: (91-93) points
FROM: Estournelles Gevrey Chambertin, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2015 – 2025

The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Estournelles St. Jacques is wonderfully perfumed, silky and impeccable. The wine’s gracious, feminine personality suggests it will drink well fairly early. This is a relatively open 2010, but that doesn’t detract from its gorgeous balance. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Gevrey Chambertin Lavaux St Jacques
RATING: (92-94) points
FROM: Lavaux St Jacques Gevrey Chambertin, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2018 – 2028

Cool, mineral notes run throughout the 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St. Jacques. Dark red cherries, plums, licorice and new leather flesh out on the generous finish. Occasional hints of Gevrey rusticity and wildness come through, but those notes are well balanced throughout and only serve to give the wine more personality, something it has in spades. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Gevrey Chambertin les Cazetieres 1Er Cru
RATING: (93-95) points
FROM: Les Cazetiers Gevrey Chambertin, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2018 – 2028

The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers is an effortless, gracious wine. It is an elusive, intellectual Burgundy that engages all of the senses with its compelling, weightless personality. Floral notes flow through to the totally effortless finish. This is pure Cazetiers, and also one of my favorites in the lineup. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Grands Echezeaux
RATING: (95-97) points
FROM: Grands Echezeaux Flagey Echezeaux, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2020 – 2030

The 2010 Grands Echezeaux speaks eloquently about the virtues of finesse. Weightless and gracious, the wine floats across the palate with sweet red berries, crushed flowers and exotic spices. The aromas and flavors flesh out in all directions. High-toned floral notes add the upper register, while the fruit gains weight and depth with time in the glass. Today the Grands-Echezeaux is totally expressive and complete. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Griottes Chambertin
RATING: (92-94) points
FROM: Griotte Chambertin Gevrey Chambertin, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2018 – 2028

The 2010 Griotte-Chambertin bursts onto the palate with – surprise – loads of Griotte cherries. Crushed flowers and spices develop in the glass, adding a measure of complexity. As good as this is, I don’t find the level of depth or complexity that is typical of the 2010 Grand Crus here. Today my impression is that this feminine, gracious Burgundy is best enjoyed sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Mazis Chambertin
RATING: (95-97+) points
FROM: Mazis Chambertin Gevrey Chambertin, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2018 – 2035

The 2010 Mazis-Chambertin inhabits a whole other plane after the Griotte. It is an explosive, intense wine bursting at the seams with fruit. Black cherries, licorice, violets and spices wrap around the palate in this sensual, totally alluring wine. The Mazis is a showstopper. Wow! Anticipated maturity: 2018-2035.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Morey St Denis Clos des Ormes
RATING: (90-92) points
FROM: Clos des Ormes Morey St Denis, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2015 – 2025

The 2010 Morey St. Denis Clos des Ormes shows the more feminine side of Morey in its ripe red berries, mint, sweet herbs and wild flowers. Layers of sweet perfumed fruit seem to float on the finish, while silky, polished tannins give the wine its sense of proportion. This is a very delicate and pretty Morey. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Nuits St Georges les Cailles
RATING: (92-94) points
FROM: Les Cailles, Nuits St Georges, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2018 – 2030

The 2010 Nuits St. Georges Les Cailles comes across as cool, introspective and intensely mineral. Finely cut and chiseled, the Cailles impresses for its precision and focus. Layers of dark red fruit crescendo on the intense, saline finish. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Nuits St Georges les St Georges
RATING: (92-94) points
FROM: Les St Georges, Nuits St Georges, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2020 – 2030

The 2010 Nuits St. Georges Les St. Georges reveals tons of intensity and focus in its black cherries, smoke, tar and licorice. I especially like the energy and focus here. Dark notes continue to develop in the glass, giving the wine much of its muscular, brooding personality. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Nuits St Georges les Vaucrains
RATING: (91-93) points
FROM: Les Vaucrains, Nuits St Georges, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2016 – 2030

The 2010 Nuits St. Georges Les Vaucrains emerges from the glass with endless layers of freshly cut flowers, rose petals, sweet red cherries and licorice. The 2010 is a weightless, gracious wine endowed with striking inner perfume and the silkiest, purest of tannins. This is a very Chambolle-like Vaucrains and a model of total finesse. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2030.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Pommard Epenots
RATING: (90-92) points
FROM: Les Epenots Pommard, Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2015 – 2025

The 2010 Pommard Les Epenots shows lovely radiance and depth in its dark red fruit. Layers of fruit continue to blossom on the mid-palate in this seamless, supple and highly expressive Pommard. Floral and mineral notes brighten up the round finish. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Pommard Grands Epenots
RATING: (91-93) points
FROM: Epenots Pommard, Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France

DRINK: 2015 – 2025

The 2010 Pommard Les Grands Epenots shows the more perfumed, floral side of the village. Crushed flowers, sweet spices and red berries flow from the glass. This is a very pretty if somewhat occasionally fleeting, ethereal Pommard. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.

RATING: (91-93) points
FROM: Les Rugiens Pommard, Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2017 – 2030

The 2010 Pommard Les Rugiens is the most focused of these three Pommards. It shows terrific energy in its mineral-laced red fruit. Floral notes appear on the finish, adding lift and freshness, while underlying veins of minerality give vibrancy and focus. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2030.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Volnay Caillerets
RATING: (92-94) points
FROM: Les Caillerets Volnay, Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2017 – 2027

The 2010 Volnay Les Caillerets is utterly impeccable. Red fruit, crushed rocks and flowers are woven together beautifully in an elegant, refined fabric of notable pedigree and class. The aromas and flavors build effortlessly to the huge, intense finish. This is all finesse. I loved it. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Volnay Clos des Chenes
RATING: (92-94) points
FROM: Clos des Chenes Volnay, Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2018 – 2030

The 2010 Volnay Clos des Chenes bursts onto the palate with heady concoction of mineral-infused red fruit, crushed rocks, white flowers and white pear. The 2010 is nervous and taut from start to finish. The wine’s energy should allow it to age nicely for years. Chalky notes support the articulate, focused finish. This is a striking wine. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Volnay Santenots
RATING: (90-92) points
FROM: Les Santenots Volnay, Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2015 – 2025

The 2010 Volnay Santenots comes across as a touch fragile and fleeting. Silky tannins frame a core of expressive red fruit in this perfumed, supple red. The long, caressing finish is very attractive. It will be interesting to see the direction the Santenots takes over the next year or two. Today it is a bit on the ethereal side. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Vosne Romanee les Malconsorts
RATING: (94-96) points
FROM: Aux Malconsorts Vosne Romanee, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2020 – 2030

The 2010 Vosne-Romanee Les Malconsorts marries considerable volume and textural richness with tons of underlying energy. It reveals gorgeous mid-palate depth as the fruit continues to blossom all the way through to the enveloping finish. Silky, polished tannins convey an impression of total finesse. This is a great Malconsorts. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Vosne Romanee les Petits Monts
RATING: (91-93) points
FROM: Les Petits Monts Vosne Romanee, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2015 – 2025

The 2010 Vosne-Romanee Les Petits Monts comes across as soft, round and accessible. It doesn’t have the vibrancy or personality of the Suchots, which is surprising. I will be curious to see if the wine is more revealing in the future. There is plenty of time, as these 2010s won’t be bottled until after the summer. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.

2010 Maison Lucien le Moine Vosne Romanee les Suchots
RATING: (94-96) points
FROM: Les Suchots Vosne Romanee, Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France
VARIETY: Pinot Noir
DRINK: 2020 – 2030

The 2010 Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots is one of the highlights in this brilliant group of 2010s from proprietor Mounir Saouma. Dark cherries, deeply pitched spices, licorice and crushed rocks are woven together in a rich, layered fabric of utter distinction and sheer class. The Suchots possesses striking depth and fabulous balance. Exotic spice notes waft across the palate on the finish. This is pure Vosne and pure Suchots. I loved it. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.
