WINE SPECTATOR LOVES MAGIS ETC

ROTEM & MOUNIR SAOUMA
Châteauneuf-du-Pape White Magis 2012

Score: 96

Very bright, with a piercing lemon chiffon note followed by shortbread, white peach and verbena accents. The long finish has a bright stony edge and a light talc hint that lingers while the fruit plays out. Remarkably youthful and thoroughly distinctive. Drink now through 2025. From France.—J.M.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Omnia 2012

Score: 95

  • Release Price $116
  • Country France
  • Region Southern Rhône

Tasting Note
Gorgeous, with beguiling wood spice, Lapsang souchong tea and warmed raspberry and blackberry coulis aromas and flavors gliding along, enhanced by a shiso leaf note and backed by a silky, iron-edged finish that is deceptively long. A very distinctive style. Best from 2017 through 2030. 1,000 cases made. –JM

ROTEM & MOUNIR SAOUMA
Châteauneuf-du-Pape Arioso 2011

Score: 97

  • Release Price $239
  • Country France
  • Region Southern Rhône

Tasting Note
Lightly mulled raspberry, bergamot, persimmon and black cherry fruit flavors are seamlessly stitched together, with hints of black tea, cinnamon and sous-bois filling in the background. Graceful overall, but with ample anise- and ganache-edged grip that is well-embedded through the finish. This should unfurl beautifully in the cellar. A thoroughly captivating wine. Best from 2017 through 2035. 315 cases made. –JM
